It’s So Personal
“The importance of music to me is what inspires me to share it in such a personal way.”
- Monica Ortiz
MISSING YOU
When I sat down and wrote ‘Missing You’, I thought about the relationship that happens when you get stuck in a cycle of breaking up and getting back together because you can’t really figure out how to stay together. The way I left ‘Missing You’ was with a yearning of wanting to put behind all of the bad to figure out how to make it work. At the end of the day, I’m always about hope.
Beauty And The Beast
When Michael Bryant asked if we could cover ‘Beauty and the Beast’, I panicked because I was worried that people would judge me, that I wasn’t Celine Dion. It made it really hard to record until I realized that I am Monica Ortiz and I have my own voice and if people are going to judge me, it’s okay. Then I stayed in the recording booth, and sang it the way I felt it.
Journey Home
When I first conceived making Journey Home, I didn’t realize that it was going to be such a rollercoaster of my emotions and such a telling of my life. But I’m glad that it turned out the way it did because if you sit down and listen to it from beginning to end, you might just connect to your life. And the thought of that connection, between me and you, makes me smile.
